What Ever Happened To…..

Last week marks the 16th consecutive month without a victory anywhere in the world by Tiger Woods.  In that time, Phil Mickelson has won only once.  The two best golfers of this generation have one win between them since November, 2009.

In that space, much has been written and much has been said about the “next” generation of golfers, the ones in waiting, the ones claiming the crown.  I contend that many if not all of them are busts.

Look at this list

Anthony Kim

Andres Romero

Rickie Fowler

Paul Casey

Sergio Garcia (ah, Sergio)

Camilo Villegas

Sean O’ Hair

It was, at one time a very impressive list.  A list full of potential, but except for a couple of bright moments here and there, by a couple of them, this is NOT a list of winners.

Maybe we really have been spoiled by the accomplishments of Tiger and Phil over the last fifteen years.  I didn’t think I was taking them for granted, but maybe I was.

All of these guys are fun to watch…you haven’t lived until you’ve been at a golf tournament, leaning on the ropes, watching Villegas with a group of teenage girls….BUT, I’m longing for the day that Tiger and Phil, shake off the rust, and get back to being the best players of THIS and many other generations….
