The Future Of Hilton Head

It is a wonderful venue for a tournament, the players love it, the media loves it, the people behind the scenes love it, and it really did produce some wonderful golf on Sunday. The Tour/Circus makes stops every year at some pretty forgettable places, I hope it finds a way to continue to make a stop at a pretty unforgettable place.

Getting Ready For Golf’s First Major Of The Year…

I was asked by someone yesterday if this is the best week of the year for me, and I’ve discovered that the question is getting harder and harder to answer each year. Believe me when I say that I am well aware that many of you would give a body part to be here, in my shoes, doing some of the things that I do for the week.

The LPGA has had it’s challenges over the last two years, but that doesn’t mean the golf has suffered. These two women put on as good a show as you would want to see. And, I’m always reminded while watching the women, and hearing the yardages left to the green, and the clubs they are choosing to use, they hit it much more like we do, and therefore, afford us the best opportunity to learn to play the game. Believe me, my clubs are more than ten years old, and even when I get new ones later this year, I still won’t be hitting seven irons 190 yards…it ain’t gonna happen.

Some New Makeup On A Grand Old Lady….

I love what the owners of the resort have done. I’m always impressed with the work of Crenshaw and Coore, it is the perfect blend of “protectors of the game”. The game could use more like them both.

Simply The Best….

You don’t get to say something like this very often. Earlier this week, I had the chance to speak to someone who was arguably, the best at what he did. For more than 40 years, Frank Chirkinian produced sports events for CBS. From Olympics, to US OPEN tennis, to his Emmy winning coverage of the MASTERS, Frank was thought by many to be the best at his craft.

It was ALMOST quite a Sunday in professional golf. At a time when the attention of golf fans is rightfully directed at other sports, golf almost made a quantum leap forward over the weekend, when quite possibly, I think for the very first time, the No.1 and No.2 players in the world ALMOST won on the same weekend.

I Hope The Commissioner Was Watching!

As I watched, I thought to myself, this is what is missing from the FED-EX CUP playoffs. REAL drama.

Suppose They Held A Tour Championship….and nobody….

As if to pile on to the Tour’s woes…now, Sunday’s final round…the FED EX CUP conclusion, will have to begin early due in the rain expected in the Atlanta area on Sunday.

The Cowboys Can’t Seem To Let It Go…

Coach Gregory said he would be pleased to have the Cowboys in the field. It should be pretty exciting come early April. See you at Forest Hills.

Hard To Go To A Tournament Around Here Without Bumping Into A Major

If you’re a fan of professional golf, and if you’ve always wanted to attend the major championships in person, there will be plenty of opportunities over the next seven years or so…even if you can’t get a badge to the event on Washington Road.
